Summer is still far away, but we are already dreaming about it. We close our eyes and transport ourselves to…
Bulgaria is an attractive tourist destination for a large number of international tourists. This is due to the fact that in our country there are many factors supporting the development of tourism, namely a favorable climate, geographical location, diverse relief, access to the sea, mineral healing springs, resorts with luxury hotels, historical and cultural attractions. According to the different combination of these factors, Bulgaria can be divided into several regions:
    – Staroplanina – includes the Pre-Balkan massifs and the middle parts of Stara Planina. It has mineral springs, parks, historical villages, protected areas, caves, architectural reserves, ethnographic museums, etc. These conditions are favorable for the development of spa tourism, ecotourism, agrotourism, ethnotourism, cognitive tourism, etc. The main centers are Veliko Tarnovo, Troyan, Elena, Teteven, Tryavna, Kotel, etc. The most famous hotels in the area are the hotels in Veliko Tarnovo. They include both luxury and hotels for all classes.
    – Sredna Gora – it covers Sredna Gora and Zadbalkan. For him, the main factors for the development of tourism are folklore, springs with healing mineral water, dams, settlements with historical significance, architecture in the Renaissance spirit, etc. Based on these factors, the area is favorable for ecotourism, fishing, educational tourism, agrotourism, hunting tourism, etc. The main centers are Koprivshtitsa, Kazanlak, Panagyurishte, Sopot, Kalofer, Karlovo, etc. This area is of great historical importance for our country, and this makes it attractive, both for all Bulgarians and for foreign tourists who want to get to know the history of our country.
    – Northwestern – the region includes the Pre-Balkans, parts of the Danube Plain, the western part of Stara Planina. The most attractive conditions in the area are its diverse relief, the Danube River, the settlements with historical significance. The area is good for family, educational, fishing, hunting tourism, water sports and other tourist activities. The main tourist cities are Vidin, Belogradchik, Vratsa, Kozloduy, Berkovitsa, etc.
    – Rhodope-Plovdiv – covers the Plovdiv-Pazardzhik field and Western Rhodopes. In the region there are mineral waters, architectural reserves, forest massifs, ethno-cultural features of the population, a fair, dams, etc. This contributes to the development of balneotherapy, educational, recreational, hiking, hunting, congress tourism, etc. Ski sports, water sports, caving, etc. are also developed. The main centers are Devin, Velingrad, Chepelare, Smolyan, Batak, Pazardzhik, Plovdiv and others. One of the most elite hotels with a variety of modern spa and medical treatments are the spa hotels in Velingrad. Built not far from mineral springs, they participate in the development of spa tourism.

It is becoming increasingly common among Bulgarian tourists to organize their vacation both in summer and winter. Relaxing in the snow or actively spending time on the snow-covered slopes is a favorite activity for a large part of our compatriots. To the delight of Bulgarians is the variety of ski resorts. Such are formed on almost every mountain in the country, the only exception being Strandzha.

Although there is a wide choice in the foreground, the stunning Rila massifs and snow tracks stand out with their beauty. And there, hidden in the northern skirts, is the ancient resort of Borovets. Its history begins in 1896, when the royal residence “Tsarska Bistrica” was built. Having changed its appearance a lot over time, today Borovets is a famous place, known among skiers from all over the world, due to the holding of World and European championships. Built up mainly with buildings used for accommodation, restaurants, entertainment venues and ski schools. For sophisticated foreign tourists, the place offers three-star hotels meeting a high standard and quality of service at reasonable prices.

Downhill skiing and slalom competitions are long-awaited events that gather eyes from all over the world. Borovets has been quite successful on the world and European stage. This destination has hosted a number of competitions with high-ranking participants and proven professionalism.

The mountain reveals its beauty not only in the winter season. One of the options, for example, for summer recreation and escape from the noise, traffic and city heat remains the mountain treks. One of the most touristic and much-visited places in the area are the seven Rila lakes. Due to its specific relief of a rock massif with steep slopes that form watersheds between themselves, Rila is the mountain with the most lakes in Bulgaria. And the fact that the highest peak of the Balkans is located there – Musala makes the place extremely desirable for mountaineers and climbers. Mountain paths of different lengths are connected by huts and shelters and encircle the whole of Rila. Regardless of when you visit the mountain and whether you will descend its snowy slopes or climb its exposed peaks, remember to be careful and always carry a map of the area with you.

Mountain tours are tiring and we know from experience that at the end of a long day there is nothing more pleasant than a delicious dinner and a hot bath in a three-star hotel at the foot of Rila!
